Manoj Ladwa, founder of India Inc launched ‘Winning Partnership: UK India Relations Beyond Brexit’ on 26th June 2017 at the iconic The LaLiT Hotel in London. ‘Winning Partnership’ is a collection of essays on what a modern India-UK relation could look like. Attendees heard from HE Y K Sinha, The Indian High Commissioner, and several of the contributors to the book including Lord Meghnad Desai, Lord Karan Bilimoria, Baroness Usha Prashar, Lord Jitesh Gadhia, Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, and Hon Barry Gardiner MP. The panel discussion was moderated by Simon Long of the Economist.
The key themes of ‘Winning Partnership’ that emerged from the panel debates were :
1. The need to move from transactional to transformational relations
2. From a special partnership to a truly global partnership, and
3. Harnessing the talents and enterprise of the Indian diaspora – the ‘Living Bridge’ to strengthen ties
The book comes at a critical juncture in global affairs. India and its engagement with the world is being transformed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Whilst the United Kingdom, one of the most prosperous nations in the world, is going through tumultuous change following its epic decision to leave the European Union.
The writers, including Dr Gareth Price, CB Patel, Nikhil Rathi and Rahul Roy-Chaudhury, draw on their experiences, exploring the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The essays cover a wide range of subjects including politics and diplomacy, economics and business, strategic affairs and defence, through to culture and soft-power, and engaging the UK’s significant Indian diaspora. The authors and editor hope that ‘Winning Partnership’ will help inform the debate on the future nature and direction of one of the deepest relationships in world diplomacy.
