London South Bank University hosted its inaugural Dr Rami Ranger CBE entrepreneurship lecture, given by Lord Karan Bilimoria, on Monday 17th July 2017. Supported by the Dr Rami Ranger CBE Fund for Enterprise Excellence, guests heard about Lord Bilimoria’s entrepreneurship journey from founding Cobra Beer to his role at the UK India Business Council, and for the past decade as a peer representing entrepreneurship in the House of Lords.
Dr Rami Ranger CBE is a successful global entrepreneur and founder of Sun Mark Ltd, an international marketing and distribution company which has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and International Trade five times in a row. In 2014, Dr Ranger generously set up a £250,000 fund to inspire and support enterprise excellence at London South Bank University (LSBU).
LSBU’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute has since used the fund to deliver programmes and activities that support students and recent alumni to develop their enterprise skills and achieve their entrepreneurial potential. Activities include an annual enterprise lecture,; support of existing student and graduate ventures, as well as, two enterprise fellowships for student and graduate entrepreneurs. The University also set up a hub and workspace for recent alumni start-ups on the Graduate Entrepreneurs Scheme. In 2016, LSBU was named the Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards.
At the opening of the centre, Dr Ranger said “I am humbled to have this opportunity to speak to you about two subjects that have been so critical to my success – education and entrepreneurship. Where I am today is a far cry from where I started. Education enriched and shaped the futures of myself and my siblings. I started with nothing and now have the opportunity to help others make the most of their lives.
